The Real Zenogram

Alternative rock. Four decades of songwriting. First streaming release

The Real Zenogram is the solo project of a singer-songwriter of Italian origin living in the UK, making alternative rock that shifts between guitar-driven intensity and synth-heavy experimentation. Over forty years, he's developed a strong songwriting voice — much of it shaped by his acoustic guitar, a reliable companion through life changes and moves across countries. His productions began in the cassette 4-track era — a time when you needed wild imagination to make a song spark.

As a solo artist, The Real Zenogram explores something akin to Depeche Mode's emotional storytelling, Kate Bush's experimental edge, and the romantic melancholy of The Cure's Disintegration. His songs move from raw rock to electronic pop, often landing somewhere in between — drawing as much from European literature and cinema as from post-punk and synth-pop. Music that stays with you, but never by shortcuts and easy formulas.

Project details

"Mirabeau" closes a 30-year loop. Written in the early '90s, it was the first track The Real Zenogram felt truly satisfied with — and now, three decades later, it becomes his streaming debut. Not as nostalgia, but as the right beginning for a new chapter.

The song sets Guillaume Apollinaire's 1913 poem Le Pont Mirabeau to music, using the full text in its original French. Where many French chansonniers have approached the poem with reverence, The Real Zenogram's version brings an unexpected lightness to its melancholy before letting the arrangement swell into drama. Think Peter Gabriel falling in love with a French poem.

Production: vintage synth palette (Korg M1 textures, Behringer RD-9 drum machine, Arturia analog synth replicas) paired with a '90s Fender Stratocaster. Produced and mixed entirely at home, mastered by Natalie Bibby at Air Studios, London.

Video: a montage of early cinema — from 1913 through the 1950s — focused on love, humour, and tragedy. Its centrepiece is a woman dancing in a 1913 film—a visual thread about not letting heartbreak curb our enthusiasm when love finds us again. Available on YouTube.

What's Next: "Get Out of Your Bedrooms" — a rock anthem written as homework for a Brian Eno songwriting course. Eno challenged the class to write a revolution song. The Real Zenogram took him up on it. Expected 2026.
